The little icon in the browser tab, on the phone home screen and next to your Google results. Each place wants its own size: here is what your site provides.

Five files are enough

32 × 32

At the site root. Every browser and tool looks for it, even without a tag.

Vector

Sharp at any size. A media query inside the SVG can switch colours in dark mode.

180 × 180

Opaque background, about 20 px of margin: iOS rounds the corners itself.

icon-192 / icon-512

Android

Declared in the manifest. Add a “maskable” version with the logo inside the central circle.

Why Google sometimes shows a globe

Google only shows your icon if it is square, at least 48 × 48 px (ideally a multiple of 48, or SVG), and reachable by its robot. After a change, it may take a few weeks to update.
