My IP address
The address every website sees when you visit it, and what it says about you: your internet provider, your country, sometimes your city. Handy when a technician or a firewall asks for it.

We read the address your connection presents to us, as every site does. Nothing is kept. Our site only answers over IPv4: if your connection also has an IPv6 address, it does not appear here.

What your IP address reveals
01
Your provider
Every address belongs to a block managed by a company: Vidéotron, Bell, a mobile carrier, a VPN.
That is what websites and fraud filters see first.
02
Your region
Geolocation databases guess a country, often a city. Rarely your street.
With a VPN, it is the VPN's location that shows.
03
Not your identity
Only your provider can link an address to a customer, and only on a legal request.
The address often changes when the modem restarts.
Questions
Why does my IP change?
Most home connections receive a “dynamic” address that can change when the modem restarts or after a few days or weeks. A fixed address is usually an option for businesses.
Why does my colleague have the same IP as me?
Everyone behind the same router (office, home, café) goes out with the same public address. Inside, each device has a private address (192.168…, 10…) that websites never see. Some mobile carriers even share one public address between many customers.
IPv4 or IPv6?
IPv4 (four numbers, like 203.0.113.7) is the historic format; addresses have run out. IPv6 (long, with colons) is its successor. Many connections have both, and the browser picks one depending on the site.
When would I need it?
To let a technician in remotely, to add your office to a firewall's allowed list (a WordPress admin, a database), or to check whether your address is on an email blacklist. For scripts: curl https://physalisdesign.com/outils/mon-ip/?texte=1 returns the address alone.
