Down for everyone or just me?

A site won't open? We try it right now from our server in Montreal, outside your network. If it answers for us, the problem is probably on your side, and we suggest where to look.

Where a visit can break

Opening a site takes four steps. When one fails, the browser often shows a vague message; this tool tells you which step is stuck, and whether it's stuck for everyone.

01

DNS

The name (example.com) is turned into an address. Expired domain or deleted records: nobody gets in.

02

Connection

The server must accept the connection. Server off, firewall or suspended plan: it times out or is refused.

03

HTTPS

The certificate must be valid and cover the name. Otherwise, a warning screen for every visitor.

04

The page

Code 200: all good. 500 to 504: the site or its CDN is failing. 403: access refused, often by a firewall.

It works here but not for you?

Your computer, your network and your provider are between you and the site. A stale DNS cache, an office firewall, a browser extension or a blocked IP address are the most common culprits. The quickest test: your phone on mobile data, Wi-Fi off.
